FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: April 30, 2012

“Tower Tour Day” at Terminal Canceled Due to Nesting Peregrine Falcons

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Central Terminal Restoration Corporation (CTRC) has canceled the first of two scheduled “Tower Tour Days” that was to take place on Sunday, May 6th. The action is in response to a Department of Environmental Conservation inspection of the nesting box of the Terminal’s pair of “resident” peregrine falcons. During special “Tower Tour Days,” docents provide the public a rare look inside the Terminal’s office tower that includes viewing opportunities on the building’s 13th floor.

A nest box, constructed and installed by the Central Terminal Restoration Corporation in 2009, is currently home to two adult peregrines. Inspection confirmed that 2012 is the third consecutive year that eggs have been found in the nest. Due to the fierce territorial nature of the falcons, it was decided that the spring tower tour would be canceled to lessen the risk of stress experienced by the parents.

A second “Tower Tour Day” scheduled for later this year will take place on Sunday, October 7 2012. A complete listing of architectural and history tours may be found on the CTRC’s website, www.BuffaloCentralTerminal.org. Tours are an important part of the Central Terminal Restoration Corporation’s mission to educate and excite the community about the ongoing restoration of the landmark.

Full refunds will be given to customers who made advanced reservations for Sunday’s tour. People are asked to call the Terminal at 716-810-3210 for processing. No other tours of the building are schedule for May 6th.

The Central Terminal Restoration Corporation (CTRC) was founded in 1997 to oversee the stabilization and restoration of the New York Central Terminal in Buffalo, New York. The Terminal complex includes an 18-acre site that hosts an art deco office tower, passenger concourse and four-story baggage building.

It seems like everyone has an opinion about Buffalo. Right?

This July 16–24, the National Trust for Historic Preservation will roll its cameras at locations across town with one goal in mind – to have Buffalonians tell it like it is. This is Buffalo Unscripted, a documentary about the place you call home.

And we believe in going big. Join us on Saturday, July 16, as we kick things off at a true Buffalo icon – Central Terminal. Here’s the deal:

* 9:30-12:30: Say your piece about Buffalo, its past, and its future by going on camera for our documentary. We’ll also have a Terminal-themed photo booth.

* 12:30-1:30: Music! Those Idiots take it away for a (surprised-filled) polka tour de force.

There’ll be some quality nom nom nom action, too. We’ll be joined by Buffalo’s always-on-the-move purveyor of taco goodness, Lloyd Tacos. Tricked out nachos, anyone?

And to pay a proper homage to our historic host, show up decked out for the Central Terminal (signs, t-shirts, body paint – be creative). This is a place that matters. For realz.

So come out. Eat a taco. Bust a move. Show some Buffalove.

Learn more about Buffalo Unscripted and see our filming schedule at www.BuffaloUnscripted.org. Also, follow along on Twitter using #BUFunscripted.

And from their website…

This July 16-24, the National Trust for Historic Preservation will hit the streets to tell the real story of the city that everyone is talking about. Through a series of meet-ups scheduled in neighborhoods across town, we’ll ask Buffalonians to go on camera to talk about the place they call home, its past, and its future. Bookmark this page and check back soon for our full schedule of filming events. Or, join our e-mail list and be the first to know our meet-up venues. We can’t wait to hear what you have to say.

After we mic you up, we’ll ask you a series of questions about Buffalo, its past, and its future. As the name suggests, nothing is off limits.

We’ll host a special screening event this October during the National Preservation Conference. Invite your friends and see what your fellow Buffalonians had to say.

The Niagara Frontier Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society cordially invites members of the Central Terminal Restoration Corporation and guests to join them for the meeting of the Niagara Frontier Chapter to be held at 8:00 pm on Friday, June 10, 2011 at Buffalo Central Terminal. A short business meeting will be followed by:

NEW YORK CENTRAL MOVIE NIGHT

During what many would call the golden age of the passenger train, the New York Central Railroad had a wonderful photographic and publicity department whose task was promoting the scenic Water Level Route. NYC hosted millions of passengers each year and hundreds of passenger trains per day throughout its far flung system in the Northeast and Middle West of the United States. The railroad’s immense capabilities in the freight carrying area were not neglected either, and the progressive nature of the company was always at the forefront.

Join us in the concourse of Buffalo’s historic Central Terminal for an evening review of some of the greatest of NYC’s publicity films, now offered on DVD format and projected on a large screen for all to enjoy. Bring a friend and enjoy a summer outing to the Art Deco monument that catered to Buffalo rail passengers during the NYC’s best years.

Cherry Poppin’ Daddies to Headline Deco-Fest at Central Terminal

National Touring Act to Celebrate the “Style & Swing” of Beloved Landmark

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The “swing & style” of Buffalo Central Terminal will be celebrated during Deco-Fest on Friday, June 24th, 2011. The inaugural Deco-Fest, to benefit the restoration of the art deco landmark, will feature a rare Buffalo performance by the multi-platinum national recording artists Cherry Poppin’ Daddies as well as an eclectic mix of dance demonstrations, art deco merchandise and displays. This modern spin on the art deco era is planned to coincide with the 82nd anniversary of the Terminal’s grand opening in 1929.

More than just a concert, Deco-Fest will also feature three opening acts, a retro Burlesque performance by Chelsea Green from Pole Play Dance Studio and complimentary swing dance lessons by Chuck Chazz. Retro pin-up model Kelly “Kelvis” Welsted will appear at Deco-Fest for pictures and autographs. Scarlet Noir Photographic will provide festival goers the chance to become a vintage pin-up model using the Central Terminal as a backdrop.

Deco-Fest headliner, Cherry Poppin’ Daddies, sold over 2 million records back in the late 90s their top-20 Billboard hit, “Zoot Suit Riot.” Still popular today, some consider “Zoot Suit Riot.” the anthem of the late 90′s swing revival. Opening bands during Deco-Fest will include Rochester’s Krypton 88, The Royal Crowns from Toronto, Ontario and rock-a-billy sounds from Buffalo’s own Blue Ribbon Bastards.

Doors open at 5pm on Friday, June 24th for this 18 and over event. Tickets are $15 pre-sale and $20 at the door with all proceeds going towards the volunteer efforts to stabilize and restore Buffalo Central Terminal. Buffalo Central Terminal is located at 495 Paderewski Drive in Buffalo’s Historic Polonia District. More information may be found at www.Deco-Fest.com.

Corporate support for Deco-Fest comes from West-Herr Toyota Scion, Mighty Taco, Pin-Up Magazine, Chef’s Restaurant, Retro Lovely Magazine and Scarlet Noir Photographic. The Best Western Plus Galleria Inn & Suites has been designated as the official hotel of Deco-Fest. Conveniently located about 10 minutes from the Central Terminal and Downtown Buffalo, this Hotel is the perfect choice for out of town guests. Mention Deco-Fest to get 20% OFF any available room that weekend.

In 2011 the CTRC released its master plan that outlined various infrastructure needs and development opportunities.
Annual Central Terminal Spring Clean-Up Looks For Volunteers

Hundreds Expected to Prepare Landmark and Surrounding Grounds for Summer Programs

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Central Terminal Restoration Corporation is looking for volunteers to assist during its 14th annual “Spring Clean-Up Day.” This rain or shine event is scheduled for Saturday, May 14, 2011 from 9am-Noon at the Terminal located at 495 Paderewski Drive in Buffalo.

Over the years, this community volunteer day has positively transformed the Terminal’s concourse and grounds making it a point of pride in the community and allowing for the Terminal to be used for events that generated much needed funds to secure the building.

“Volunteers are asked to come ready to work with gloves, work attire, sturdy footwear and tools,” said Yuri Hreschyshyn, CTRC Board Member and clean up coordinator. “These clean-up days have had a profound effect on the complex. The founding of this event over a decade ago started the community’s grassroots interest in saving the Terminal. 2011 is an important year for us as we prepare the building for events that will take place during the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s national conference.”

Volunteers check-in will take place on the main approach to the Terminal beginning at 8:45a. All volunteers will receive a light lunch following the work session and may participate in a brief tour of the building.

In 2011 the CTRC released its master plan that outlined various infrastructure needs and development opportunities. The mission of the Central Terminal Restoration Corporation is to ensure that the original grandeur of the Terminal is available to current and future generations.
