National Railway Historical Society presentation Friday

The Niagara Frontier Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society will be holding their annual Summer meeting at 8:00 pm on Friday, June 11, 2010 at Buffalo Central Terminal. The meeting will feature a presentation titled “The Twilight Years of Central Terminal 1975-1982″ by Chapter Member and long time station enthusiast Jon Rothenmeyer.

He will take a journey down memory lane as he recalls the final operating years of Buffalo’s iconic Central Terminal.

This presentation is free and open to the public.

SCVA this weekend!

Join us for our 6th year showcasing the art of students from across WNY. The Williamsville Art Teachers of the SCVA (Student Celebration of the Visual Arts) in conjunction with the Central Terminal Restoration Corporation (CTRC) will be displaying student and teacher submissions of painting, sculpture, photography and mixed media. Some of our very own Friends of Central Terminal will have art to show this year as well.

The show is open from 11am-5pm Saturday and Sunday, and it’s free!

TAPS Ghost Hunt this weekend!

Tickets are still available for the TAPS ghost hunt coming up this weekend at Central Terminal. Join Steve Gonsalves and Dave Tango from SyFy’s Ghost Hunters, and Demonologist John Zaffis for a night of investigations.

The event starts at 6:30pm both nights, and tickets are $225. This is a fundraiser for Central Terminal, however tickets are available from Ideal Event Management, not the CTRC. Please email Mark Tetlow at iemanage@yahoo.com to purchase tickets, or buy tickets at the door.

TAPS has added a second night of investigation at the Buffalo Central Terminal. They have opened up a limited amount of tickets to this investigation on Saturday, May 29th. Beginning at 6:30pm in Buffalo, NY this investigation will be a chance to investigate with the stars of Ghost Hunters Academy, Steve Gonsalves and Dave Tango. Joining them on this investigation is Demonologist and long time paranormal investigator, John Zaffis. We are hoping that you are all able to attend this investigation whether it be Friday or Saturday. Tickets are on sale now and a limited number remain for each night. We hope to see you all there. 2010 Dyngus Day Buffalo Schedule Released

BUFFALO, NEW YORK, March 18, 2010 – More than 30 locations will serve as official venues for Buffalo’s 2010 Dyngus Day celebration. This marks another year of growth for the post-Lenten party that attracts upwards of 100,000 people at sites spread across Western New York. To assist Dyngus Day party participants, Dyngus Day Buffalo has released a complete schedule of events on its website: www.DyngusDayBuffalo.com.

Dyngus Day Buffalo provides marketing and organizational support to Dyngus Day celebrations in the Buffalo-Niagara region. In partnership with public and private organizations, Dyngus Day Buffalo promotes Buffalo, New York as the Dyngus Day Capital of the World. The goal of Dyngus Day Buffalo is to reinforce its cultural significances through public awareness and education, and to promote Polish customs with accuracy, integrity, and liveliness.

A Polish-American tradition, Dyngus Day celebrates the end of the restrictive observance of Lent and the joy of Easter. Over the decades, Buffalo, New York, has become the Dyngus Day Capital of the World, attracting thousands of people from across the northeast United States. Although celebrated in Buffalo’s Polonia neighborhood since the arrival of the first Poles in the 1870s, the city’s first modern Dyngus Day celebration was held 49 years ago by the Chopin’s Singing Society, a tradition that continues today.

Dyngus Day 2010 will take place on Monday, April 5th.

MJ Lewandowski and Nathan Vester from the Central Terminal Restoration Corporation will be on hand sharing our extensive collection of artifacts and railroad memorabilia from the terminal with the public at the 28th Annual GREATER BUFFALO TRAIN & TOY SHOW at the Agri-Center on the Fairgrounds in Hamburg, NY. November 21st and 22nd, 2009. The show runs from 10am to 5pm Saturday and 10am to 4pm Sunday.
