BUFFALO, N.Y. — A group seeking to rescue Buffalo’s Central Terminal is throwing an 80th birthday party for the former train station.

Saturday’s bash inside the former hub of the New York Central Railroad will feature entertainment from big bands and jazz ensembles, as well as the return of the terminal’s 15-foot-tall clock to the main concourse.

The four-sided timepiece was purchased in 2005 and restored after being brought back to Buffalo. The clock was a popular meeting place during the terminal’s heyday.

The station fell into disrepair after closing in 1979, 50 years after it opened.

The Central Terminal Restoration Corp. owns the massive building and has cleaned up the terminal in the hope it will be redeveloped through government or private funding.
