Students from 26 schools around Western New York will have their art displayed this weekend at the Student Celebration of the Visual Arts show at Buffalo’s Central Terminal, located at Paderewski and Memorial drives.
Last year’s show drew more than 4,000 people and 1,500 works from 500 high school and college students to the historic 76-year-old train station.

“The amount of people all packed into the Central Terminal last year made the show very exciting,” said Chris Cook, a teacher at North Tonawanda High School and one of the organizers of this year’s show. “The terminal really brings a connection between kids and their grandparents. When grandparents came to the show last year, they were able to tell their grandchildren about their experiences in the Central Terminal years ago.”

The last passenger train departed the terminal in 1978.

The show runs from noon to 5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday, and will feature live music and refreshments including a $2 pizza lunch. Students from Clarence High School will be videotaping and photographing the event.

Added Cook: “Showing the students’ art work as well as one of the area’s architectural treasures can go a long way in furthering opportunities for the Central Terminal and in helping to revitalize our city.”

Michelle Godfrey, a senior at North Tonawanda High School, will have two pieces of artwork in the show. “[The Central Terminal] is an amazing place with an amazing vibe. It’s an honor to have my artwork featured in there,” she said.
