Those Idiots Prepare for Dyngus Day at Buffalo Central Terminal, just one of the many 2011 events at the art deco landmark.
BUFFALO, N.Y. – A celebration of the “swing & style” of the art deco era will highlight the 2011 schedule of special events and festivals at the landmark Buffalo Central Terminal. National touring band Cherry Poppin’ Daddies will bring their unique mix of swing & rock to the Terminal during the first ever “Deco Fest,” on Saturday, June 25th. Deco Fest is planned to coincide with the 82nd anniversary of the Terminal’s Grand Opening in 1929.
The new Deco Fest will join an aggressive line-up of established public events that include a community clean-up, ethnic festivals, ghost hunts and a toy & railroad history expo. Over the years, these events have become some of Western New York’s most successful outings with proceeds, unless noted, benefiting the stabilization and restoration of the Terminal.

Monday, April 25th, 3p-11p – Dyngus Day: The Dyngus Day Capital of the World’s biggest party. The event features rockin’ polka music by Those Idiots. Authentic Polish food & beer available. Located at the end of the Dyngus Day Buffalo Parade and on the Sobieski Vodka Shuttle route. Doors open with live music by Melody Lane at 3pm. Cost is $10/or $2 with a Pussy Willow Pass.
Saturday, May 14th, All Day – Annual Terminal Clean-Up: For the past 14 years, this community volunteer day has positively transformed the Terminal’s concourse and grounds. Come ready to work with gloves, work attire and tools as we prepare for 2011 season of tours and events.
Saturday, May 21st 8a-3p, – Making Neighborhoods Matter Forum: Leaders of Buffalo’s diverse neighborhoods and those who believe in the future of Queen City will meet to learn and discuss neighborhood revitalization. Topics will include housing rehabilitation, commercial corridor restoration, inspecting your home and historic preservation. The event is organized by the Buffalo Neighborhood Alliance. Cost is $5. Saturday, May 28th, 6p-2a – Ghost Hunt with Beyond Ghosts: Join Beyond Ghosts and Paranormal State’s Katrina Weidman for an exclusive paranormal investigation of the famously haunted Buffalo Central Terminal. Saturday, June 25th, 5p – Deco Fest: A celebration of the “swing & style” of the Central Terminal featuring multi-platinum recording artists Cherry Poppin’ Daddies. Opening bands include Rochester’s Kryton 88, The Royal Crowns from Toronto, Ontario and rock-a-billy sounds from Buffalo’s own Blue Ribbon Bastards. Saturday, August 6th, 1p – Breast Cancer Awareness Sip n’ Shop: An annual wine tasting fundraiser to support the Breast Cancer Awareness garden and the Buffalo Federation of Women’s Clubs. Wineries, craft vendors, live music, basket raffle, farmers market, snacks, food vendors and more.
Saturday, August 20th, 6p-2a – TAPS Ghost Hunt: An all-star evening with some of the world’s most famous paranormal investigators. Join the Syfy Channel’s Ghost Hunters Dave Tango and Steve Gonsalves as they return to the site of the 2010 Ghost Hunters Halloween Live hunt! Investigate the same areas featured on the show. This tour will be joined by special guest John Zaffis. Cost for this 8 hour event is $200. Tickets are available at Ideal Event Management.
Saturday, September 10th & Sunday, September 11th, 10a-4p – Toy Train and Railroadiana Expo: One of the area’s largest assemblages of toy and model train vendors from the Northeast selling trains of all gauges and vintages. Purveyors of railroad antiques, DVDs, books, photographs and other associated ephemera known as “railroadiana” will also be on hand. Historians will be available to tell stories of Buffalo’s past important position as the second largest railroad hub in North America. Admission is $5 for adults; children under 12 free.
Saturday, September 24th, 3:30p-11p –The Buffalo Oktoberfest: Get ready to raise your beer and toast, “Prost” during Western New York’s largest event of its kind. Eat, drink, dance German heritage in the spirit of gemutlichkeit! Central Terminal is transformed into a giant Bavarian beer hall with authentic German beer & food and continuous German music provided by Buffalo’s German show band, The Frankfurters and the 25-piece, German American Musicians Blaskapelle.

Friday, October 28th & Saturday, October 29th 9p-2a, – Halloween Candlelight Ghost Hunts with Beyond Ghosts: Two opportunities for the public to experience a special five-hour Halloween candlelight ghost hunt. Amateur ghost hunters will be able to investigate all areas of the Central Terminal that were featured during the 2010 Ghost Hunters Halloween Live television broadcast. Saturday, November 5th 6p-1a, – Variety Club Halloween Bash: Buffalo’s biggest and most outrageous Halloween to benefit Variety - The Children’s Charity of Buffalo & Western New York. Detailed information to be posted on VarietyKidsTelethon.com.
In addition to special events, the Terminal will conduct guided history tours of the building on April 16th *, May 1st *, June 5th*, June 19th ,July 3rd, July 17th ,July 31st, August 14th , August 28th , September 4th , September 18th and October 9th*. Unless noted, all tours begin promptly at 11a and last two hours. Cost is $10 per person.
The Central Terminal Restoration Corporation (CTRC) was founded in 1997 to oversee the stabilization and restoration of the New York Central Terminal in Buffalo, New York. The Terminal complex includes an 18-acre site that hosts an art deco office tower, passenger concourse and four-story baggage building. In 2011 the CTRC released its master plan that outlined various infrastructure needs and development opportunities. The mission of the Central Terminal Restoration Corporation is to ensure that the original grandeur of the Terminal is available to current and future generations.

We are not accepting private bookings for 2011. The CTRC has decided to focus on our larger fundraising events. We’re not adequately staffed or equipped to offer small event rentals, and we need the time between events for maintenance and preservation projects.
