Scott, I watched the documentary again the other night, because I remembered something that Russell had said about those who built the great pyramids of Egypt never living to see them completed. Russell's exact words from it directly afterwards were:

"We're just enjoying the moment"

I hope that you were watching down and enjoyed your moment last night, Russell!

I first met Russell in the Fall of 2006 as we began to plan for the production of the video documentary, "Central Terminal: Saving a Buffalo Landmark." Russell's enthusiasm and passion for the terminal became evident very quickly throughout our meeting. However, it was his sincerity and helpful spirit that allowed for our project to become so successful.

We shot the documentary January-March of 2007, and as anyone who has ever been inside the terminal in the winter/early spring knows, it is freezing inside then. However, we wanted to feature Russell, as the then-serving president, inside of the terminal for his interview. He was more than happy to oblige, and you can see his breath in the cold as he speaks in the video.

Even aside from my interactions with Russell in the documentary, he was an extremely friendly, caring and fun man. We showed up to the '07 Dyngus Day parade to support friends and have some fun, but, Russell convinced us we should be more apart of the festivities, and stuck us on a float. I'm fairly sure that there were more people in the parade than were watching it, but, it was a fun experience none the less.

I'm very sad to hear that Russell has passed, but, glad to know that the pain of his sickness is now over!

I never met Russell in person, he left the organization before I became a member. I could see his energetic spirit though in the video documentary 'Central Terminal- Saving a Buffalo Landmark'. His spirit will live on in all of us in our ongoing efforts to bring Central Terminal back to life. I'll be up Wednesday to pay my respects.

Marty, I totally agree. Russell was the one who inspired me to be a preservationist. His love for the terminal was infectious. He will be sorely missed by all of us in the City of Buffalo.

Without Russ's efforts, there would be no Central Terminal today. Russ... you will be missed.
