Hey Sara, that reminds me. How are we doing with the Plaque Fund? Have we reached our goal yet? Are we getting close? Please advise us! We have about a week or two after Dyngus Day to get the order in to make the 8 week deadline in order for the plaque to be delivered by the 80th anniversary.

Larry checked in on the other thread

“Hey Everyone, the Plaque Project Fund has reached 36% of it’s goal. Still a long way to go; but we’re getting there! Thank you!
    Larry & Kate”

I was going to post this in the plaque thread but I guess it got closed. I assume the CTRC already has this small image of the plaque I found:

I’m still looking for a larger and more detailed one. Anyway if anyone doesn’t have an idea what the plaque is supposed to look like, this gets the general idea across.

That is the plaque we have in the building right now, it is not the same plaque we are raising money to recreate. The plaque we are raising money for is the original dedication plaque that listed all the people who were involved with the project 80 years ago, and is very large. The plaque in the picture we had made for the 75th, to recognize the building’s place on the national historic register.

Actually, judging by the wooden background, this plaque looks like the one in Cafe Deco Hong Kong, denoting where the large lamp was from. I did have a photo of it at one time.

(Oops!) Case of mistaken identity. Are we having any luck obtaining photos or drawings of the original plaque? About how big is it anyway? Are there any books on Central Terminal or on the New York Central in Buffalo dated around WWII in a library somewhere that might have such a photo? Would local historians, the city of Buffalo, old atricles from the Courier Express or Buffalo Evening News, or even ‘WASA/ Studio A’ from their Fellheimer & Wagner years have something archived? Mark said something in an earlier post about the original plaque still being somewhere in the western NY area, but not accessible to the CTRC at this point. (Is it buried in a time capsule somewhere? Kind of big for that, I’d think.) We need a good image of the original if we are going to have it re-created!

  7. Sara Etten says:

The original plaque is still local, and when Mark said it was not available to us, he meant it is not available to be returned to us. We are working on having it photographed for the reproduction. I don’t know the exact dimensions but it is quite large.

  8. Paul G says:

OK, Sara. When the party gets the OK for the photoshoot, if it’s possible to get up close to it, to actually touch it or take measurements, hopefully a plan is in place to document as much of it as possible. Our reproduction should then be an identical twin! Looking forward to seeing it!

  9. John says:

    Paul,
Why do you keepsay “WE” I’ve never seen you at a work party, or at a event for that matter. But you seem toa answer for everthing

  10. Paul G says:

Trust me, I’ll be up there very soon! Hopefully once or twice before spring clean up. I’ll be in touch!

I was up there for spring clean up, members only tour, and three other events last year. The train show, Oktoberfest, and Mobility. I’ll be back!
