News and Updates

ATTENTION: Unfortunately Mobility Across the Ages has been POSTPONED to October 11th due to work going on inside the building. Work on the restaurant space has been in the works for 3 months, and delayed by New York State until now. We didn’t feel it was fair to hold the event on the 20th when the participants couldn’t access the building to set up and prepare properly. Anyone who has already purchased tickets through Brown Paper Tickets – HOLD ON TO THEM – they will be honored at the rescheduled date. You can still buy tickets by clicking here. Don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions.

As many may know Good Morning America came through WNY, and brought along their very own train. Volunteer Adam Vester snapped this fantastic picture:

And last but certainly not least:
The Canisius College Video Institute documentary “Central Terminal: Saving a Buffalo Landmark” was recently awarded two Silver Communicator Awards of Distinction in the categories of “Student Production” and “Documentary.”

The Communicator Awards is the largest and most competitive awards program honoring the creative excellence for communications professionals in the US and around the world. These awards are judged and overseen by the International Academy of the Visual Arts, an organization of leading professionals from various disciplines of the visual arts dedicated to embracing progress and the evolving nature of traditional and interactive media.

“Central Terminal,” produced by DMA majors Kirsten Jahn ‘07 and Scott Richardson ‘09, under the direction of Barbara Irwin, PhD, director of the Video Institute, traces the history of Buffalo’s “most beloved building,” including its architectural and social significance and the efforts of the Central Terminal Restoration Corporation to bring the building back to life.

Funded in part by the John R. Oishei Foundation, the Canisius College Video Institute provides students with the opportunity to put their classroom lessons to work on projects that will benefit the college and the community at large. Students produce documentaries and promotional videos for local and international not-for-profit and service agencies that otherwise would not have the resources to tell their stories in this way.

Oktoberfest Updates

Monday, September 8th, 2008

Due to a scheduling conflict, The Frankfurters will be unable to play at the Central Terminal Restoration Corporation’s annual Picnic on the Plaza: Oktoberfest this year.

In their place, we are happy to announce “Buffalo’s Most In Demand BIG German Band!!”, the German American Musicians Blaskapelle will be playing. The German American Musicians Blaskapelle specializes in traditional German music for every occasion, including marches, polkas, waltzes, foxtrots, tangos, Rheinlanders and other ethnic dances popular in the German speaking regions of Europe. They also demonstrate ethnic dances and provide various audience participation opportunities, including “Rucki Zucki” “Schöne Maid” “Ein Prosit der Gemütllichkeit” “The Chicken Dance” and more! And when they say BIG German Band, they mean it: The German American Musicians Blaskapelle is a Show Band comprised of 20 musicians!

This year’s Oktoberfest is Saturday, September 27th from 6 pm to 11 pm at the Central Terminal on 495 Paderewski Drive in Buffalo. Come out and have a beer, dance a polka or two, or just enjoy an evening of music with friends!
