Central Terminal: Saving a Buffalo Landmark on air tonight

“Central Terminal: Saving a Buffalo Landmark,” a 30-minute video documentary produced by the Canisius College Video Institute, will be shown on:

WNED
Friday, November 16 at 10pm
Sunday November 18 at 3:30am.

ThinkBright (Digital 43.3; Time Warner 21)
Sunday, December 2 at 8:30pm
Friday, December 7 at 12:30am

Produced by Digital Media Arts majors Kirsten Jahn ‘07 and Scott Richardson ‘09, the documentary traces the history of the building, its architectural and social significance, and the efforts of the Central Terminal Restoration Corporation to bring the building back to life. The Canisius College Video Institute provides students with the opportunity to put their classroom lessons to work on projects that will benefit the college and the community at large. Students produce documentaries and promotional videos for local and international not-for-profit and service agencies that otherwise would not have the resources to tell their stories in this way.

The Canisius College Video Institute is funded in part by the John R. Oishei Foundation and directed by Barbara Irwin, PhD, chair of the Communication Studies Department.

Enjoyed the program about the Central Terminal project on WNED-TV Sun. Was well done & informative, getting the word out about your efforts & progress. As a print journalist of 35+ yrs. in both the mainstream & gay media on both coasts (including 17 with “Billboard” in L.A., Vegas & Bflo.), I know the power of broadcasting.

The show reminded me of many, wonderful childhood trips via the NY Central to visit my mother’s mom near Albany, N.Y. Enjoying homemade, fried chicken lunches while we watched the historic Erie Canal, locks & legendary Catskill Mts. pass by-our-window. Priceless memories.

Have forwarded your web site address across-the-country, knowing the impact of PR in having worked for 2, major L.A. firms. A people, village, town, city & country are judged by how they value their past, present & future! Keep up the good work!

It’s nice that you have the local media helping you. Now what you guys need is to be covered by channels like Discovery, The Learning Channel and History possibly A&E. I know they do really good one hour and two hour documentaries. In my opinion BCT is worth the two hour documentary. Who knows. Orange County Choppers could do a bike based on the BCT/New York Central Railroad and you guys could auction it off on E-Bay and get alot of cash fro mthe sale. Just some food for thought. That would be OCC’s first bike on a railroad theme. I’m sure Paul Sr and Paul Jr along with Mikey would love to help you guys out.

FYI Paul Sr does own a steel plant so he could help you out with whatever steel related projects you are working on like replacing steel beams, doors, window frames, molding some railings that are to the style you need to replace worn/missing pieces.

The Discovery Channel did an urban explorer show in 2005 in Buffalo. The terminal was featured, but they didn’t mention the preservation project at all! They made it seem like they broke in and wandered around. They didn’t. Sara was there with them the whole time. The exposure was okay, but not as good as we’d hoped. We would have liked at least SOME mention of the project.

That’s outrageous. As an apology for a royal insult they should donate two hours of their air time on Prime Time towards the history and preservation efforts. They should also make public your website to their audience so that they can donate money, materials or time to volunteer. Maybe some of their viewers might have artifacts like those door handles that were donated to you guys that you can re install. They owe you guys that much.
